One full week down...
One week down and many more to go. I'm looking forward to what stories my students are going to produce this semester!
First, the particulars: Students should have turned in their signed paperwork.
First, the particulars: Students should have turned in their signed paperwork.
- Parent form
- Movie permission slip
- Equipment/Syllabus form (saying that students/parents have read and understand the syllabus and the responsibility required of students to use the equipment)
Also, students will need to purchase and turn in their own SD card for use in taping stories for class. I will provide SD cards for big school events, but for the many individual and group projects, students will need their own SD card. I will keep up with it at school and at the end of the semester students will be able to take their card home. Turning in completed paperwork and their SD cards will be an easy first couple of grades for students. Parents, if students are not financially able to purchase this card, please let me know.
Level III/IV students have completed their first video assignment, the 6-word story, and level II students will have until Monday at the end of the period to complete their story and turn it in.
The next assignment will be the students' first news story. We will talk this week about what makes a good feature story and what elements that need to be in each story. I want students to begin thinking of themselves as journalists, as that is the way I will treat them. Students will be expected to produce stories, on deadline, that are factual, engaging, and informative. We will talk about how to include statistics or facts, how to attribute them and how to get a great soundbite. Well-developed interview skills will be a must and I will go over some techniques that will help students get great soundbites, also called "Bites".
Here's to another great week in the Hillgrove AVTF class!
