Movie Making


Students in all of my classes are currently working on producing a mini-movie.  This is an exercise to prepare us for the Cobb County Short Movie Extravaganza competition, which begins on October 31st. 

We began the one-and-a-half-week assignment on Monday of this week.  At this time, it is due at the end of the class period on Wednesday, October 10th.

Students are to produce a 4-minute or less mini movie on a topic of their choice.  They will be graded on the following:
Pre-production:  scripting, planning and blocking shots, etc.
Production:  Shooting (lighting, audio, plot lines, story arc, continuity, shot composition, etc.)
Post-production:  Editing (transitions, audio/video matching, use of special effects where applicable, flow of the story, etc.)
Other things that will be considered:  School appropriateness, how well the group worked together, how compliant the group was on deadlines, etc.

Paying attention to these elements when students are watching any movie, sitcom, drama, or any storytelling video will help.

Assignment # 8 - Color Temperature

Color Temperature is a characteristic of light that we are not always aware of.  Our eyes and brains are able to see colors as they are in every lighting situation, but light gives off color.  Our cameras need to be adjusted in order for them to reproduce color video the same way our brains see the world.  We white balance the cameras (sometimes black balance) in order to give the camera a reference so it can reproduce colors accurately in our final video. Beginning students - Please study the Power Point and learn the concept of Color Temperature and please complete the worksheet below the Power Point and turn that in to me, sharing it with me on Google Docs (turn link sharing ON and be sure to get a "shareable link") or you can email it to me as an attachment.  I will grade it and let you know what you got.  Please turn this in by tomorrow, May 5th.
